As part of his sustained annual educational support for indigent students in Ikorodu, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, on Monday, September 12, 2022, presented free GCE to 100 students to help propel their respective education ambitions.
The presentation event took place at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat and had the presence of the council’s officials and staff, politicians, beneficiaries and their parents among many others.
Oriwu Sun gathered that beneficiaries were selected across the wards in Ikorodu Local Government.
Aside the presentation of forms, the Adesina led administration also registered the beneficiaries at various centres for two week coaching class to assist them have proper preparations for the exam and enhance their chances of passing with flying colours.
More so, the council boss announced the N300,000 (three hundred thousand naira) as gift to the best three students in the exam.
While addressing the students and other guests, Hon. Adesina explained that the free forms were aimed at assisting parents who lack the wherewithal to cater for their children and wards for the forthcoming examination.
According to him, any effort or drive towards acquisition of education, knowledge and betterment of human mind, can never be a waste in life, hence, his administration’s commitment to giving succour and support to indigent students in the council, to complement their efforts towards attaining their dreams.
He, therefore, promised to continually give assisting hands to students as well as deliver the dividends of democracy to entire people of Ikorodu, as the financial situation improves.
While he urged parents to be better role models to the children, Adesina advised the students to make good use of the support and stay eschew all forms of criminality that could ruin their lives and tarnish the image of their families.
He also implored well-meaning individuals to contribute their own quota to the educational development of Ikorodu, Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole, stating that government cannot do it all.
Meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries, in separate brief interviews with our reporters commended Hon. Adesina for the exemplary gesture.
One of them, Elizabeth Omotola Babatunde said that she was very happy to be among the beneficiaries and thanked Hon. Adesina his kind gesture.
She assured that she would study hard in order to have excellent results as a way of showing appreciation for the opportunity given to her.
Another female beneficiary, Aishat Kansudeen who was completely overwhelmed with joy, was full of praises for Hon. Adesina.
She described the gesture as a great relief, stating that only every student can afford to obtain the GCE form on their own.
Also, Alliu Hassan, in his remarks, thanked God for using the Chairman to avail them the opportunity to write the exam and promised that he and other beneficiaries would put in their best to perform well.

Gafaar, East Senatorial woman leader deaconess Wonu Osinowo, leader of the house, Adebowale Adebola, Council Manager, Engr. Martins Odupitan, Arewa leader, Alh. MD Yusuf, Reps of Iya Olo-Oja Gen, Wadesh babes, and parents of beneficiaries were all in attendance at the presentation event.
