Oba Shotobi sacks Regun, Kameel Dada from palace

The Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi has suspended the Regun of Ikorodu, Chief Kameel Adisa Dada from office.

He was also directed to abide by the suspension and stop acting in the capacity of Regun of lkorodu, henceforth.

The notice of the suspension was contained in a letter titled, ” Suspension From Office As Regun of lkorodu “, dated 5th May 2021 and signed personally by the monarch, a copy of which was sent to Oriwu Sun.

The suspension was said to have been handed down to Chief Dada after careful consideration of his response to the query sent to him by the Ayangbure palace on April 20, 2021.

In the said query, Oba Shotobi and the Ayangbure-in-Council demanded explanation from Chief Dada regarding his deliberate ignoring of his roles and obligations to the Ayangbure palace and it’s Council of Traditional Chiefs for over two years and his absence from the palace without reasons or apologies.

However, Chief Dada’s responses to the query, which were said to have been hinged on the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and his trips outside the country, were considered unsatisfactory and unacceptable by the Ayangbure-in-Council.

More so, he was accused of treating the query with disdain by responding one week after it was served on him despite the directive that he should respond within 48 hours.

The suspension letter is reproduced in full, below:

SUSPENSION FROM OFFICE AS REGUN OF IKORODU

The Ayangbure Palace is in receipt of your response to the query dated 27th April 2021, the said response has been carefully noted and sufficiently considered accordingly.

However, the following observations call for grave concerns:

a.            You were given 48hours to respond to the query dated 20th of April, 2021 and served on you on the same date; but you chose to respond to it on the 27th of April 2021, which of course was after the expiry of the time given to respond. Worse still, you offered no explanation whatsoever for the delay in sending in your response. This, no doubt, is an affront to the constituted authority of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and the Ayangbure-in-Council.

b.            By the contents of the query, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and the Ayangbure-in-council sought “a reasonable explanation from you for deliberately ignoring your roles and obligations to Ayangbure Palace and its Council of Traditional Chiefs for over two (2) YEARS.” The query also mentioned that “you have decided to distance yourself from the Palace without reasons or apologies for your absence”. However, your response which was hinged upon the COVID 19 Global Pandemic and your trips outside Nigeria (without any mention of dates of departure and arrival) are sadly unsatisfactory and unacceptable to the Ayangbure-in-Council. At best, the excuses constitute an afterthought and an attempt to mislead the Council for no just cause.

c.             For the records, the COVID 19 Global Pandemic did not occur more than two years ago. Even during the prevalence of the pandemic, the Ayagbure and other Chiefs held meetings and attended to palace activities by strictly complying with COVID 19 rules and regulations within the State and the Federal Republic.

Sequel to the foregoing, therefore, you – Chief Kameel Adisa Dada- are hereby suspended from your position as the Regun of Ikorodu with effect from the 5th day of May, 2021. You are advised to abide by this directive and stop acting in the capacity of Regun of Ikorodu henceforth.
