How Oba Gbadamosi, Ologijo of Ogijo, children, wives, family, friends gave Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosi a befitting burial

Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosi was a former Permanent Secretary during Bola Ahmed Tinubu era and was former Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly. He was the man, who stood by Tinubu during the crisis of the Governor’s certificate scandal.  Otunba Lamidi vigorously defended Tinubu, dispelling the false rumour circulating the State bordering on the inauthenticity of the Governor’s certificate from Canada. The former Governor and leader was vindicated and he completed his terms in office.

 Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosi dedicated his time and resources fighting for positive courses he believed in. He was on the vanguard for democratic change and freedom of expression in Lagos. His selfless struggle for the masses did not go unnoticed as the Ayangburen of Ikorodu installed Gbadamosi as the Baale of … and Chief …of Ikorodu.  He was also a one term Chairman of the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association, (IKODASS). He was very active in community services and gave all he could to the community.

Shortly before his demise, Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosi spent most of his time shuttling Lagos and New York, where his children live. Being a community man to the core, he was loved by many. Little wonder when he died, his first son, who is the Oba of Ogijo, his wives, children and family members and the entire Ikorodu community, gave him a befitting 8-day Firdau prayer at his residence on number ….street, Ikorodu.

Prominent individuals from far and wide, within and outside the community, Obas from Remo communities and their Ikorodu counterparts attended the Firdau prayer led by Sheikh Seiudeen Oloworibi, Chief Imam of Ikorodu. Notable clerics from Ikorodu and Remoland also joined the Chief Imam to officiate at the 8-day prayers.  Son of late Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosi, who is also the Kabiyesi of Ogijo, HRM Oba … had a busy time attending to special guests. He made sure everyone present were well catered for, shuttling among the guests and seeing to their needs at the event. The Oba made sure every guest at his late father’s 8-day Firdau prayer had a beautiful reception.

As early as 12 noon on that day, the entire street was jam-packed with guests as they struggle to retain seats. They all wanted to pay their respect and give Otunba Gbadamosi a befitting burial. There was enough food and drinks to all in attendance. People present attested that it was a burial of a great man in Ikorodu. Late at night, before some guests left the party, the Oba of Ogijo and his wife ensured that those who stayed behind were properly taken care of and were made to feel at home. People reminisced on their past moments with the late Lamidi Gbadamosi.

Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosi died around 7.00am on Monday, November 9, 2020, in his home in lkorodu and was buried the same day according to Islamic rites. He was 80 years old. He was buried like a king even though he was a father of a king.  According to reports gathered, the deceased had just returned to the country recently from a trip to America and was preparing to go out on Monday when death came calling. It was also gathered that he had asked someone to help him iron the clothes he wanted to wear for the outing and didn’t look like someone that would drop dead so suddenly.

Late Gbadamosi was a multiple title holder of Otunba of lkorodu, Otunba of Ibeshe and Otunba of Agboyi – Ketu in Lagos State, and was also the Baale of Owode Awomu in lkorodu. He was a committed member of many social and traditional clubs when he was alive. Prominent among them were the prestigious Oriwu Club and Ikorodu Club. He was survived by children, wives, brothers and sisters.  Otunba Gbadamosi was a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, and National Institute (mni) Administration, Policy and Strategic Studies. He attended the University of Maryland, USA, where he acquired Bachelor of Science (B.sc) in Business Administration and MBA in Transportation Management (1971-1974).
