The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, donates 100,000 books to Lagos State Government.

DSC_9605Oba Kabir, Adewale Shotobi, on Tuesday handed over ,100,000 textbooks to the Lagos state govt. in his palace to enhance and facilitate good and quality education in Lagos state and Ikorodu division.

It was a great opportunity for the people of Ikorodu division and most especially the student, teachers and parent to be a partaker of the kind gesture by the Bookman’s foundation from far North Carolina, United States of America.

The C.E.O of this great foundation is no other than Dr. Paul J.Brown and African who has been a great support for the king and his environs.In the course of the handing over, it was made known that Dr. J. Brown, helped the kabiyesi Oba Shotobi when he was working at the Federal palace hotel, He sent him through school in the United States and even paid his house fees.

Mr J. Brown who was formerly special adviser to president Nixon,also has an N.G.O that collects books from all institutions and sends them to african countries. The Kabiyesi of Ikorodu, Oba Shotobi, welcomed everyone at the
palace, while extending his greetings and appreciation to all chiefs, baale’s, commissioners, representatives, teachers, parent and students, most especially to the deputy governor, Her Excellency, Alhaja Idiat Oluranti Adebule, who was duly represented by one of her sons.

Beneficiaries of the book sharing includes; Oriwu senior model college, Yewa senior secondary school, United senior high school, Ayangburen senior high school, Ayangburen junior high school, United junior high school, Lagos state civil service model college Igbogbo, Oreyo senior grammar school, and Ipakodo senior grammar school.DSC_9609DSC_9610

The Kabiyesi particularly thanked the chiefs and Aremo’s because they were there all through the course of flying the books down to Nigeria. He also mentioned that the chiefs were on ground to receive the book on its arrival to the palace. Oba Shotobi recognized the presence of ashipa kaoli olusanya and the popular gbeborun of the universe ALhaji monzor olowosago (oriwusun).

In his speech he said the books are for primary and secondary school students. The king thanked the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for encouragement and for being there. While re-instating, that more should be expected, he vowed that he is going to assist in whichever way, because he was given the opportunity for someone to pick him up, feed him, sent him through school, on this note the Kabiyesi once again appreciated everyone present at the palace for the handing over and urged the students to judiciously make use of the book in a way that is required of them.

The deputy governor her excellency ALHAJA Idiat Adebule extended her greetings through her representative, she said in her speech, that she appreciates the king, Oba kabir Shotobi for his unending commitment to promote good education in Ikorodu division and Lagos state as a whole. She also thanked Dr. Brown for his vision and provision for educational materials to make learning easy for the students. She made known in her speech that, Dr. brown has been committed to collecting and distributing of books to many schools and library since 1988, she said the Lagos state government is committed to achieving effective and functional education, as part of our commitment, we have just concluded the arrangements for the distribution of E-learning materials to the secondary senior schools.

We will not only provide for free education, post primary level, we would also provide for textbooks and other resources that will enhance effective and functional education. It was also said the Lagos state government is creating a website program whereby students can log on to and read all subjects of their choices, this is said to be launched on the 17th of January 2017 as www.education.gov.ng.

The Deputy Governor once again congratulated the pupils and parents of Ikorodu division for being so lucky.
