The Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Education District III, Mrs. Titilola Margaret Solarin, has commended Governor Akinwumi Ambode for his various laudable contributions to the growth and development of the Education sector in the State. She also applauded the role being played by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluranti Adebule, in supervising the sector.
While speaking at Dolphin High School, Lagos Island, on Friday, September 8, 2017, during the 2017 Leadership and Vocational Training Convocation Day, Mrs. Solarin thanked Governor Ambode for giving students across the state the opportunity to undergo vocational and leadership training during the holiday free of charge.
Happy for the success of the programme, Mrs. Titilayo Solarin, affirmed that the Governor had enormous concern for the future of education in the state. Recalling all Ambode had done, she said that he had renovated many schools, provided furniture, sponsored both teachers and students training, and had continued to pay teachers’ salaries promptly.
Titilayo Solarin also commended the students, who underwent training, describing them as being innovative and creative based on what they produced during the course of the training. She told them that the additional qualification they had acquired would make them to be self-reliant in the future. The Tutor-General advised parents to encourage their children to acquire either one or two vocational skills, which would be helpful to them even when they get to higher institutions.
Explaining further, she said that about five hundred students were trained during this period and they are showcasing what they have done. She advised the students not to abandon their academic works for the skills acquired since education, according to her, remained the best and attracts a lot of opportunities for anyone who has it.
The NUT Chairman, Eti-Osa chapter, Comrade (Mrs.) Abbas Omobalanle, in her address, advised the students to aspire for the best in life and refuse to settle for less. While laying more emphasis on the female students, she told them to believe they could rival their male counterparts in everything. Comrade Omobalanle also urged them to be focused and to concentrate more on what could make their lives worthwhile in the future. The NUT Chairman also had commendation for Governor Ambode for all the good works of his administration, especially in the education sector.
According to the Director, Science and Technology Department, Education District III, Mrs. Odunsi Titus Aderonke, the training is an annual programme, which the district had continued to improve upon through injection of more vocational and leadership skills. She disclosed that more resource persons were invited during the programme to take the students on leadership training. Mrs. Odunsi also conveyed the appreciation shown by students, including the Head girl of Dolphin Senior High school, Miss Ajinifesin Fatimah, to both the Lagos State Government and the Tutor-General, Education District III.
Features of the programme included inspection of the works on the product stand produced by students, among which were, Beads and Wireworks, Soaps, Ankara Shoes and bags, Cakes, Dresses, Hats, and other products. Certificates were later presented to the graduands.
Dignitaries present during the programme were, Director, School Administration of the district, Dr. Mudashiru Raji; Director, Human Resources and Administration, Mr. Karma Sanusi; Principal, Dolphin Senior High School, Mrs. Prereira T.A., among other district staff and notable personalities.
