The residents of Morekete Community in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area have appealed to the Lagos State Government to intervene and complete the abandoned part of the Federal Government road in their area to save them from further nightmare posed by the uncompleted road.
In an interview with Oriwu Sun recently at Igbogbo, some of the residents lamented that the tarred part of the road, which was constructed by the Federal Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban-Development in 2011 when during the construction of a building for the provision of external electricity (prototype scheme), could not serve them fully because of the untarred part of the road, which was abandoned.
The residents of the community have been stridently appealing to the State Government to assist in tarring the abandoned part of the road since the Federal Government project had been abandoned with no hope of the contractors coming back to site. According to them, the untarred part of the road had become a daily nightmare for both residents and motorists, especially during rainy season, when the whole road becomes flooded.
Mr. Semiu Saka, a resident of the community, said that residents of Morekete Community have tried their best to ensure the completion of the road by holding several meetings to deliberate on the issue while letters had also been written to the State Government to seek intervention for the road’s completion, but none of the efforts had yielded positive results.
Mr. Saka also lamented the uncooperative attitude of some of the residents whenever they were asked to contribute money to repair the road, claiming that if they had such money they would finish building their own houses. Akanni said that if a community is developed, roads and other infrastructure would also be developed. He, therefore, called on the State Government to help in completing the abandoned road.
Mrs. Funmi Adekoya, another resident, who said that she was new in the community, disclosed that the road was abandoned midway as a result of the activities of land-speculators (Omo-Onile), who were alleged to have demanded for money from the contractor.
Another resident, Mrs. Ugochi Ikefuaku, in her explanation, stated that there was no sign that the contractor handling the Federal Government project would come back to the site.
