The speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has been said that the Lagos State budget of 2017 tagged, “Budget of Golden Jubilee” is a budget of radical reform meant to transform Lagos State.
Speaking after the presentation of the budget at Alausa,on November 29, 2016 by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Speaker Obasa, who gave thanks to the Almighty God for seeing the state thus far recalled that around this time last year, the State Governor was here to present the 2016 budget, where everything mentioned in the budget was almost carried out.
According to the Speaker, despite all the nation has gone through, it was gratifying to know that this administration has endeavoured to remain realistic, responsive and dynamic in the scheme of things. He cited some laudable projects which the state had embarked upon such as the “Light up Lagos project”, construction and rehabilitation of roads in all the local governments and LCDA’s in the state, among others, which were all properly spelt out in 2016 budget.
According to Obasa his leadership had produced positive impact on the lives of Lagosians for the fact that he and his members work as a team in terms of passing legislation and resolutions geared towards legal backing for policies, programs and other activities of the state government.
Hon. Obasa said that the supportive roles played by the Assembly has contributed in no small measure to the credibility of the governor in the outgoing year. Here are the laws passed by the House over the course of this year, which are in line with the 2016 budget, Neighbourhood safety call law 2016; Lagos State Property Protection Law 2016.
He said that the Neighbourhood law is a direct response to the security challenges in the state such as kidnapping and the likes, which enumerated in the inauguration of the Board of Neighborhood Safety Corps Agencies. The property law is meant to drive investment in the state.
The Speaker further said that the house also approved two regulations, which are stamp duty regulation 2016 and Lagos Sate Employment Trust Fund Operating Regulation 2016. He informed his colleagues that the Governor has just presented a budget of N812,990,000.
In his words, “it is crystal clear that year 2017 budget is aimed at massive investment, security, transport, travelling management, tourism education, health and infrastructure etc. I assure you that this house through effective oversight would ensure that year 2017 budget delivers on its promises to stimulate the economy of the state by focusing on infrastructural development, delivery of exclusive growth ad advancing the welfare of Lagosians.
