The Commander, Ikorodu Central Lagos State Neighourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Mr. Sanni Ibrahim, has stated that the agency would collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking of drugs in the community.
The Commander stated this during a courtesy visit to the office of the Commander NDLEA, Mr. Abdulazeez Ogungboye, on Friday, August 11, 2017 to familiarize with the agency in order to synergize on how to free the community from drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Mr. Sanni said he was worried about the rampant use and consumption of dangerous drugs among youths in the state and expressed his determination to fight the menace. In his words, “What prompted our visit is that we noticed that drug abuse has become rampant in our environment and are mostly being used by youths. Such attitude renders them useless to the community and to even themselves and their families.”
According to him, NDLEA alone cannot address the situation and so, it needs to join hands with other stakeholders like LNSC. He said the meeting was aimed at bringing synergy, cooperation and collaboration between the NDLEA and LNSC in fighting the traffic monster. Sanni also explained that the meeting was relevant and timely in view of the trends in drug trafficking and drug abuse. He called on all and sundry to support the agency in the fight against the use of dangerous drugs, which could ruin the society.
While also speaking, the NDLEA Commander, Mr. AbdulAzeez Ogungboye, explained that drugs were substances other than food, which when taken, has the power to affect the psychological, mental and physical conditions of the human body. He disclosed that psychotropic substances such as Tramadol, Diezapan, Rophynol and Benzhexol are very dangerous to health and could enslave the user until he becomes an addict.
The NDLEA boss, however, urged the officers of the LNSC not to indulge in the habit of drug abuse and illicit trafficking because it won’t portray good states in the society. He warned that any security operatives caught in the act would be arrested immediately and charged to court to serve as a deterrent to others. He, therefore, tasked the LNSC officers not to relent but to do their work efficiently to help the NDLEA curtail the long term effect of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the community.
Mr. AbdulAzeez urged residents of the community, especially parents, to always monitor their children in order to ensure that they don’t keep bad company, which would influence them to
