Hansome Brilliant accountant, developer, Gbenga Kuti now Otunba Efuewu of Ikorodu

   The Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, on Thursday, August 9, 2018, conferred the Otunba title of Efuewu of Ikorodu Kingdom on a Retired Civil Servant and the Executive Chairman, Omak Investment and Properties Limited, Prince Mondiu Ajenise-Kuti, for contributing immensely to Ikorodu development and for his support to the traditional institutions in the land.

Before the capping of Otunba Ajenise-Kuti at the Ayangbure pavilion, Oba Shotobi described him as a good son and Prince of the soil from the Lasunwon Ruling House. He told the mammoth crowd present that Kuti was also entitled to become the King, being a Prince. The monarch also disclosed that though Kuti was not opportune to become the King, he had continued to support him. Hence, to appreciate his contribution, his installation as Otunba Efuewu was duly approved by the Olootu (Head) of Lasunwon Ruling House and he would be capped accordingly.

Befitting a high Chief, Otunba Ajenise-Kuti appeared in Agbada, a Yoruba traditional attire, during his installation. He was taken straight to Oba Shotobi to pay homage before engaging in the rite of installation. After the cap and the beads for decoration had been blessed by traditional chiefs, Oloris present, Osugbos, Erelus and Obas in attendance, including Ranodu of Imota, HRM Oba Ajibade Agoro, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, HRM Oba Semiu Orimadegun Kasali (Emugoriade I); Obateru of Egbin, Oba Oyebo and Onipe of Ipee, Kwara State.

Oba Shotobi capped Prince Ajenise-Kuti as Otunba Efuewu of Ikorodu kingdom. He was presented with the certificate of the Efuewu title after fulfilling all traditional requirements and donating chieftaincy money, locally called “Owo-ori-igba”. After that, there was jubilation among his admirers and family members from both Ofugorishe and Efuewu Odufowote Adegorushen of Lasunwon Ruling House. Others, who expressed their joy for being part of the ceremony included traditional rulers, Oloris, Princes, Princesses and traditional\honourary Chiefs.

The photo session segment was the next on the programme of event, which was immediately followed by another segment that was shifted to Ikorodu town hall, where Otunba Ajenise-Kuti, organized a reception for his guests. The colour of the venue, which was white and wine, blended with the dressings of the guests and family members, who had come to celebrate their own Otunba-Ajenise-Kuti. The guests had more than enough delicious meals to consume coupled with entertaining musical tunes spilling out from the live musical band at the venue.

In an interview with Oriwu Sun, Otunba Efuewu said he deserved the honour bestowed on him because he was from both the families that produce Kings and house kings in Ikorodu Aside that, he was one of the foremost estate developers in Ikorodu and had made various contributions to the upliftment of the town. The Otunba graduated from Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1981. He also attended Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama for his Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) in 1983.

Otunba Efuewu rose to the position of a Director before his statutory retirement at the age of sixty from the Lagos State Civil Service. He has been awarded a fellow of IKODASS.
