Divine intervention, God grace responsible for steady progress in the state – Ambode

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who God has given the wisdom, strength and capacity to lead this Mega City State for thirty (30) months, on January 7, 2018, hosted Lagosians to thank his creator for the emblements and divine grace, which has brought success to the State. With his wife, member of his Executive Council and other special guests, Ambode led Lagosians to appreciate the Almighty God for His mercies, His goodness, His protection and His provisions.

The venue at the Government House was extraordinarily decorated to portray the heavenly presence of God. It wore different official colours of the State – notably yellow, green and black. The choirs from different Christian churches fused into a mass choir to thrill the distinguished audience with gospel music and solemn classical songs. Eminent Lagosians from all walks of life, including the clergies from Muslim and Christian religions, politicians, community leaders, public servants, private sector drivers, etc., attended the event.

The annual thanksgiving was tagged “Ceaseless Service”. So, why will Ambode not thank God, when, despite the severe economic hardship across the country and the spates of insecurity, Lagos State blossomed from glory to glory? While States were soaked in blood, ravaged by killings, poverty, recession and unpaid workers’ salaries, Lagos remained buoyant and afloat for the past thirty (30) months. Governor Ambode believes that it was through divine intervention and the support of Lagosians that the State had continued to sustain its growth; hence, the need to gather and thank God.

According to Ambode, “Since the inception of this administration, we have always called upon God and prayed to Him prophetically, and He has always granted our prayers and desires, even more than we asked for and more than our expectations.” The Governor, therefore, assembled Lagosians to express His profound gratitude to the Almighty God, who, in His infinite mercy, has made Lagos State a peaceful place for Nigerians to live in and for him to govern with ease.

Governor Ambode noted that it is his prayer that, “As we come to His Gates and Courts with thanksgiving and with praises today, He will release His blessings upon us, guide and direct our path, and lead us through the year successfully.” The Governor did not end his speech without thanking the religious leaders in the State for promoting peace and harmony among the faiths, while also appreciating Lagosians for supporting his administration.

In his sermon, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, urged Nigerians to draw closer to God, assuring them that they will enjoy God’s favour if they do so.

Among dignitaries who graced the service included Governor Ambode; his wife, Bolanle; first Civilian Governor of the State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande; his wife, Abimbola; Chief Judge of Lagos, Justice Opeyemi Oke; Chief Rasak Okoya; Professor Pat Utomi; Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal; Senator Ganiyu Solomon; Pastor Paul Adefarasin; Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo; Pastor ltuah lghodola; Rev Adebola Ademowo; Bishop Mike Okonkwo, among others.
